I have a pavlovian reaction that drives me to bite people who try to "motivate" me with cute phrases... A nice cynical Hugh poster would go a lot further for this puppy!
Just for the record, my favorite "motivational" phrase is: "That's really good! You can do better

Damn, David beat me to posting <a href="http://despair.com" rel="nofollow">http://despair.com</a>
Is anyone REALLY motivated by those successories posters? I find them so vague and laughable that I don't know how anyone could take them seriously. I don't know about the rules behind intellectual property rights, but quotes from real people would mean a lot more to me than something a marketing think tank created after a Tony Robbins bender.
My favorites:
If everything is under control, you are going too slow. --Mario Andretti
Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'press on' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race. -- Calvin Coolidge
The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources. -- Albert Einstein
To avoid criticism do nothing, say nothing, be nothing. -- Elbert Hubbard

Ack! Barf! Wow. That's amazing.
I mean getting one of those would be like being fired.
"This award says that collectively we are so cynical, and you are so dumb, that this might motivate you, rather than letting you know that you are being fucked up the ass by management for all you are worth, and instead of being paid, you get this piece of shit."
Arrgh. Smell the coffee. Get the fuck out of Dodge.
But then I suppose the next question is, how do you reward your productive lower level workers.
Why give, them a phone call in Bangalore, and tell them how well they are doing!
And listen to the smart person at the other end the line absorbing what remains of Western business expertise, and getting ready to show us what they can do.
Bah. If I'd been born twenty years earlier, I could be retired by now, and living on a pension and complaining.
As it is, I am just fearful.
