cluetrain/hughtrain

A very clued-up friend of mine had this thought:

Cluetrain was all about, “This is why we hate you.”
Hughtrain is all about, “This is how we’re going to fuck you up.”

Rock on. This has been brewing in my mind for a while:
The Big Question is no longer “What do you think of Cluetrain?”
The Big Question is “What comes after Cluetrain?”
The Cluetrain authors said as much in the book. It never tried to be “The Final Word”. It was meant to be a damn good starting point. Exactly! The first step of many.
Hughtrain is just my way of dealing with it. No more, no less.
And thousands [TENS OF THOUSANDS!] of other people are doing the same.
We live in very amazing and exciting times. I hope to God you concur.

    Yep:Cluetrain was all about,

  2. I’m certainly excited. Especially since I get to bring all of these great ideas (from *all* the crazy sources out there) to a new postion as marketing and communications manager.
Enthusiasm and creativity will get us everywhere.

  3. What I like is that this post says boo to the idea of the dispassionate, expert, consultant who doesn’t have an opinion of his own but just tries to please his clients.
We are all “change agents”; clients can choose between the ones who pretend they are somehow outside the game looking on; and those who are in the game, taking part.

  4. Hey, I actually got the job by espousing the ideas that have grown from people like Hugh, the Cluetrain boys, Seth Godin, Stephen Hall, etc., so there *are* companies out there that are willing to dip into edgier waters, if you will. And that’s what it takes — one company, one individual — taking chances.
    Smart people are listening.

I thought Chris Locke’s Gonzo Marketing was an excellent attempt at a How To, following Cluetrain, and everything including the language we now use is written in that good book.

Hugh, just wanted to tell you that I’ve got the streetcards (the sheep/wolf ones), and I love them; now my blog even looks sexy with them :) . Even though my blog is about food and builings etc. ;)
