It didn't matter so much back in the old pre-blogging days, back when it was just pictures (see the old batch archives in the old site). The other considerations are navigational. It's easier to get people to read your stuff if it's in a format they're already familiar with. Movable Type is pretty standard. Yeah, the white-on-black had to go.
